We welcome new chess players. In Winchester Chess Club you can improve your skills. Come and enjoy a game or two with us!!!

We meet on Sunday mornings at 10:30 at Unit 12 in Winnall.

You can learn how to play chess if you are a beginner or you can push your skills  to a more advanced level.
Chess sessions are run by FIDE Chess Instructor and Head Coach of Hampshire Junior Chess Association Lucas Piecha.

During the session we split time between learning and playing with club mates.

We organise tournaments and matches with other Hampshire Junior Clubs.

Our members take part in national ECF graded tournaments and I am very proud to say they did very well!

Chess is a universal game, knowing no boundaries of age, gender, faith, ethnicity or disability, that promotes key intellectual skills such as problem solving, logical thinking, pattern recognition and concentration. Playing chess also fosters intellectual character. Its cerebral reputation boosts self-esteem and gives children ‘grit’ – the tenacity to cope with adversity – which helps them grow into rounded and employable individuals. It does this by teaching children how to lose and how to win gracefully, to think ahead and foresee the consequences of their actions
